2011 please be over
Mark was mugged last night. I honestly thought I would be posting a year in review or my resolution but I am unfortunately blogging about how my husband was beaten over the head and body with a blunt object and had his wallet and phone stolen. He is okay now, luckily we live next to a firehouse and a fireman heard the attack and was able to help Mark back to the firehouse to be treated in their...

Tina Fey was right
Blondes shall forever be known as yellow hairs. No one says I have brunette hair, they say brown. It’s time to REBEL! While shopping this afternoon I overheard a sales associate helping a woman. Shopper: I’m not sure what color cardigan to get my son’s girlfriend. Sales Associate: Well, what color is her hair? Shopper: *sad sigh* Brown. I threw her some side eye and...

Finally home
After waiting an hour and a half waiting for the tow truck, being brought to the wrong garage (an auto body shop not an auto repair shop), waiting 3 hours for a new fan belt to arrive, having the wrong belt get ordered, and waiting another hour for the right belt to arrive. Needless to say, wine for dinner.

The thing about going back home
It becomes sort of inevitable when you go back to your parents’ home that you reminisce. This Christmas I ended up back in Iowa where I spent most of my childhood. While I’ve been here I keep thinking - am I the person I’d thought I’d be? The answer is no but that leads me to wonder whether or not I want to be the person I wanted to be when I was in high school....

Cracking the code
I switched vets, I felt bad about it but I was getting a little tired of a vet that barely said 2 words to me. The new vet not only spoke to me and explained everything, something the old vet didn’t do, but he very quickly gave what I think is probably a pretty accurate guess as to what the hell kind of dog Callie is. So, here’s the verdict. + + = or more specifically a...

Confession: I am a horse-person
As in I’m someone who loves being around, riding, and caring for horses. Not a half-human, half-horse person. I still get teased by my friends to this day, but I love horses. I do, it’s a passion. I used to ride all the time but with a husband in dental school, it’s just not something I can afford but I have breeches, tall boots, gloves, and a riding jacket hiding in my closet....

Anonymous asked: Hi buddy! I'm sorry to hear things aren't too great right now :( our dog actually had a knee cap that moved in and out of place and it was super uncomfortable for our dog. He had to have surgery and yea, it was not fun! I'll be thinking of your family! Also, I mailed your Christmas package.. should be there Wednesday!! :) Happy Holidays!

General unpleasantness in our house right now
Mark is sick I am sick Mark is deep into his dental school finals - the stress is palpable Callie’s limp came back for the 3rd or 4th time since we’ve got her and she was diagnosed today with a partially torn crucial ligament (which happens to be pretty freaking pricey to fix)

Do you buy your co-workers Xmas gifts?
Every year I’ve gifted my boss and my teammates a small gift. I thought it was pretty normal but now I’m wondering if I’m out in weirdo land by myself handing out gifts indiscriminately.

Petsmart Obedience Classes?
Has anyone ever taken their dog to one of their obedience classes? I’ve been thinking about doing a group obedience class with Callie, mostly to socialize her a little more. She’s great with dogs, still terrified of strangers (avoidance, shivering, curling into a ball). I started getting anxiety about her fear behavior. She’s gotten marginally better with some work but I just...

Everyone is a liar and I hate them
Everyone who posts these easy at-home solutions for gorgeous wavy/curly hair (i.e. the no heat curls headband, the sock bun hair curls, the french-braid beach hair, etc) is a dirty liar. I have tried EVERYTHING to get some sort of curl in my hair without actually having to use a curling iron (see: lazy) and nothing ever works. I’ve even tried these techniques with product….so much...

Instead of waking up to the usual whimpering from the dog begging to go on our morning run I woke up to the sound of something ripping. I rolled over and almost fell asleep again until it registered that ripping is not a good noise to hear. Naturally I flew out of bed, stumbled into the living room, and blinked the sleep out of my eyes to see Callie, gently closing and opening the velcro flap...

In which I'm sure I can control my own future
Mark and I have discussed having kids and we are both in agreement that we are waiting a few years, like after dental school when we’re actually making two incomes and when we can afford a crib for our hypothetical child rather than having them sleep in a dresser drawer. The important thing about this agreement is my winter clause. I’ve told Mark that I flat out refuse to be super...
