I gave shopping for Lent (a conviction I’ve stuck to simply because my husband didn’t believe I could do it) and every time I see a sale notice posted on my tumblr dashboard I mutter “slut” under my breath.
At the rate I’m going I’ll have to send a handwritten apology to TallGirlTales.
Usually when I come back to St. Louis I meet up with one of my girlfriends and we have the same monthly sushi lunch we had when I lived here but this week she’s completely booked up for lunch and dinner!
I’m trying to decide if I want to sit in a sushi restaurant by myself or if it’s just all sorts of awkward.
March is birthday month in my family, my little sister and my dad both have birthdays, I’m on my way to the post office to send off a gift (hence the brown paper package).
While rummaging through my dresser for a completely different top I found this bright orange-y tee. I think I remember buying it a couple years ago from Express - if memory serves, I grabbed it off the table nearby without thinking because I needed an extra $15 for a coupon or something. Not a great habit to get into.
But, I found it again and I decided to resurrect it. It will make more appearances this summer.
Tee - Express Sweater - Banana Republic Black skinny jeans - Loft Shoes - gift (brand is Laura Ashley)
It got cold again for some reason and my winter coat is at the dry cleaners. Wah wah.
Then I remembered I own I very nice sweater jacket (Banana) that I’ve been neglecting. It’s 3/4 sleeve so I really only feel comfortable wearing it with long sleeves, it’s quite warm so if it’s nice enough outside to wear 3/4 sleeves it’s usually too warm to wear this jacket. Conundrum.
Ladies - I have a question for you - do you have a favorite swimsuit brand?
As uncomfortable as I am with this conversation and the huge likelihood a bunch of porn tumblrs will start following me I am curious.
Problem: I’m chesty for my frame and in need of a new swimsuit.
Most of the swimsuits I find in stores are just fabric and string and I need more than that. I’m not on a Real Housewives show so I have no need to flash side- and under-boob while at the pool.
In the past I’ve gone with Victoria’s Secret, they tend to have swim tops with actual support built in, but the draw back is that some of the most supportive bras have push-up padding that thrusts your boobs up to the point you can rest your chin on them. My neck supports my chin pretty well so I don’t need a boob-shelf for it.
So - chesty ladies - are there any hidden gems of swimsuits that I am just overlooking? (please say yes)
5 weeks ago I decided to go about with what I called a 5x5x5. This consisted of working out for an hour 5 days a week for 5 weeks to lose 5 lbs. The 5lbs thing would be a bonus but not a necessity.
My goal was to get in shape for a beach trip that ended up being scratched from the agenda. I went through with it anyway.
I lost….dun dun dun….1.5 lbs.
No big though, I doubted I would lose much, if anything. I’ve found its kind of difficult for me to lose weight. I already eat pretty well and before I started the 5x5x5 I was pretty consistently working out 2-3 a week so I’m fairly certain I’m at my natural weight.
I did accomplish my goal of toning up though, I’d post pics but I’m not that kind of blog. I sort of assumed the 5x5x5 would give me Victoria’s Secret crazy abs, it did not, but I’m pleased with the results - I’m down a pant size and now need some new jeans.
So, that’s the end of that. I like working out but 5 times a week was a bit much for me. It became a hassle to make time for the gym and there are so many other things I’d rather do then spend an hour in the gym. So, it’s back to my usual routine ya’ll.
Started at 7am at Kegs and Eggs, ran into IrishMexi, guess what, she’s cool in real life too.
Drank and watched basketball from about 11-4pm, not my cup of tea but it was with good company, plus it was at our place and I LOVE playing hostess.
4pm-7pm We had to go outside, it was too beautiful. It was 78 degrees, I was actually sweating. At one point I got hit on on my way back from a trip to the restroom. Hello confidence boost (I politely declined, very happy with my husband).
7-10pm Power and Light district to see Pauly D from the Jersey Shore. He DJ’d for a couple of hours. The crowd was nuts, we were nuts. The dance battles were many - we beat the beat yo.
10pm-12pm Back to Westport. More drinking and some drunk food, I had nachos.
Ended the night laughing so hard that I puked. I had only had 1 drink in the past 3 hours so I was not drunk but I think it was a combo of a day of bad food, not drinking any water, and laughing so hard I was crying. It may sound horrible (no one likes vomiting) but it was literally like on 30 Rock, when Jack Donaghy vomited as a child because he was so happy.
Such a successful day, spending this Friday nursing my headache, detoxing, and working out. 364 days to go until the next St. Patty’s.
Girlin' Out with a DIY Hair Treatment aka Guacamole Head
As part of girlie time I decided to try a DIY hair mask, mostly because you all suggested it.
I did about 2 minutes of research and found a formula to try:
2 small avocados
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup honey
It’s supposed to give you shiny, voluminous hair. My hair is fine and limp, I also have a lot of it, so this seemed like something I need. Plus I only did 2 minutes of research so once I found a recipe that didn’t require weird ingredients I was in.
Go food processor go!!
And then I got this nice thick goop.
This thick goop reminded me of the pea soup vomit from The Exorcist. I was not enthused to rub this in my hair. It took a lot of courage to dip my fingers in and plop the goop in my hair. It felt wrong, like I had just been involved in some horrible food fight.
I massaged it through out (roots to tip), it seemed like the thing to do.
Not going to lie, I put this stuff in after my workout, I don’t know if that’s advised but I like to throw caution to the wind or something.
The goop felt a little slippy so I wrapped my head in saran wrap. The only saran wrap I own is green. I think I just made the saran wrap turban a new thing.
FYI, these are my sexy faces…God help my poor husband.
I left the mess on for an hour, which is what my 2 minutes of internet searching advised, then I jumped in the shower. I spent a good 5 minutes just rinsing this out, then I just shampooed and conditioned like normal.
I didn’t put any other product in my hair, I just jumped out of the shower and gave myself a blowdry. I usually have to use mousse and hairspray to get it to look acceptable.
Not gonna lie, I was kind of hoping it would be a hot mess, because it was kind of a yucky experience but my hair turned out pretty awesome. My hair blew out completely straight (usually I get this weird kink where my bangs layer into the rest of my hair) and it feels super soft.
If you’re bored, have the ingredients, and don’t expect to run into another living soul for about an hour and a half I think you should give it a go. My only regret is wasting a good hair day on a day I spend in the house, not even seeing my husband. I texted him I was having a great hair day, he didn’t find the news as thrilling as I did. Oh well.
Here’ the sitch: my husband (a student in dental school) is on his Spring Break. In order to avoid driving me crazy while I work (from home) he’s going to spend 3 days at a friend’s lakeside cabin with the guys. This leaves me, by myself.
Marriage is many things and one of those things is getting a lifelong roommate. Luckily, that person is your best friend and you love them but it does mean you both make compromises so you can live happily together (see: not leaving my makeup out all over the bathroom counter). Before we got married I lived by myself and some of my more girlie habits (and bad habits) have gone by the wayside now that we live together.
So, for the next 3 days I plan on “girlin’ out” and doing all the stuff that he hates or at least stuff he finds weird (see: mud masks). So far this plan includes some of my favorite meals that he doesn’t necessarily enjoy, mud masks, reading, Mad Men season 2, and at least 1 Epsom salt bath.
Do you guys have any other suggestions for my 3 days of girlin’ out? Shopping is out of the question because I gave it up for Lent, GD I regret that decision.
