This is one tired pup. We ran in the Dog N’ Jog 1 mile race today in the Kansas City Plaza.
Callie did awesome! She was nervous and skittish at the start - it was a lot of scary strangers but she was prancing at the starting line when I asked if she was ready to race (we race at home and Callie understands the word). After the race started she had a minor freakout, skittering about in a panic, but we got out in front of the crowd and she figured it out, looked at me, I saw the lightbulb in her head click on, and she took off at a springy gallop. She seemed to get we were in a race or she just wanted to run for the fun of it.
We crossed the finish line a 00:07:11, a pretty good time for our first race.
After the race she weaved in and out of the crowd with me without so much as a flinch - normally she would have been trembling in fear. I am a nerd but I was so proud of the little mutt. I want her to get over her fear, she shouldn’t have to live her whole life terrified of people.
